CAMP DETAILS
If you've never used a sewing machine, then this is the camp for you! This is a pre-requisite for all other camps on the sewing machine.
In the morning, you will learn to:
thread the machine
wind a bobbin
make a rolled hem on your baby blanket while you get used to a 5/8" seam allowance
learn to pin correctly and sew in the round on pillowcases
make a casing for your drawstring bag ( this is the same way you make an elastic waist)
These skills lay a strong foundation for you to build on with future sewing projects. Come away with a flannel baby blanket, a pillowcase, and a drawstring bag in your choice of fabrics from our awesome collection. Campers can free sew and make additional projects once these are completed.
In the afternoon, students will learn how to draw the industry standard 9-head figure with accurate proportions in order to create realistic fashion illustrations.
Each day we will focus on something new, starting with areas that give most artists trouble: face proportions, hands, and feet (in fabulous shoes of course!), as well as drawing different poses.
Then, learn how to draw all kinds of wonderful outfits with tips for making fabric look realistic. No more triangle skirts!
On Friday, combine everything you’ve learned to create your very own Designer Collection.
Look through reference books and the latest fashion magazines to inspire you to design your own outfits and accessories, and practice your coloring skills with light and shadow in order to really make your drawing come to life.
We’ll use premium colored pencils and alcohol-based markers to make our drawings pop!
We will also practice sharing our work in a group and giving and accepting feedback, which is an important part of being an artist. We will use these constructive comments to get new ideas and find ways to improve our art.
This is going to be so much fun!
